The Sulitjelma Mining Museum is situated at the innermost shore of the lake
Langvatnet, approximately one kilometer from the visitors' museum. In the
museum you may see objects and photos representing more than one hundred
years of mining activity. You may lose yourself in models, and you get an
insight into the technology which had been developed in the mining operation.
The Mining Company were operating several activities, such as an electric power station, an electrical workshop, a laundry, a smelting plant, transportation, - yes, even a hospital. At the museum we have tools, photos, and reminiscences from all of these activities, and we make a point of giving the visitor an adventure of the characteristics of the Sulitjelma community.. Among special objects we want to mention "The Slave mark" and the Sulitjelma coin.
The museum also has a mineral collection consisting of stones from both home
and abroad. The collection contains different types of ore, many of which
are rare. |

In the abundant exhibition you will find both the tools of the engineer and
the workman. Here are different measuring instruments that were used for
mapping of the mines. Here also, we show the development from mash hammer
and hand drill to several generations of pneumatically operated drilling
machines. We have examples of the transportation systems used in the mines,
from operating by horse to locomotives operated by diesel, air, or electricity.
In connection with the objects displayed there is a large photo collection.
With a guided tour in the museum you will get an general view of the history belonging to what was once the biggest copper mill of Norway. |
By the museum stand the ruins of the old smelting plant at Fagerlia.
It was at one time the world's first electric copper smelting plant. |
